Richard morris joins mako

November 15, 2016  -  MAKO Tidal Turbines is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Morris as a consultant in the role of Global Strategy Director. Richard brings to MAKO almost 30 years of experience in the environmental sector, with over 10 years in marine renewable energy including his recent roles as Commercial Director at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Scotland and the National Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) in England. MAKO receives eU grant for     demonstration

November 8, 2016  -  MAKO Tidal Turbines has been announced as one of ten companies selected for grants under the competitive Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action (FORESEA) program.  MAKO will seek to demonstrate its turbines at the world-leading European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) site in northern Scotland commencing in 2017. LAUNCH OF mako demonstration SITE IN TASMANIA      

October 13, 2016  -  MAKO Tidal Turbines and the Australian Maritime College today officially launched the Tamar River Tidal Demonstration Site at a function held at the towing tank facility at the University of Tasmania's AMC Campus at Newnham near Launceston.  The event has attracted wide media coverage including TV news, radio (linked) and global press with the potential for cost-effective tidal energy to broaden the global energy mix of great interest [read more]

tank tests validate MAKO performance

July 1, 2016 - The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is conducting a series of tests in its highly sophisticated tank testing laboratory to help MAKO Tidal Turbines fine tune the configuration of its turbine's blades in different tidal flows. Tow tank testing has provided data that will be used to customise the different MAKO models designed for use in typical locations that may include coast tidal, estuarine, river and tail-race applications. new manufacturing hub opens in sydney

September 30, 2015-  MAKO Turbines has opened its new engineering facility in the inner suburbs of Sydney.  This facility contains all of the equipment necessary to fabricate MAKO turbines during the prototyping and low-volume production phase.  By Installing a CNC lathe from Weiler, a Kuka industrial robot and a high-precision Stratasys 3D printer, will speed-up development of the MAKO prototypes. [read more]

FIRST SEA TRIALS FOR MAKO TIDAL TURBINE

November 1, 2014 - Sydney Harbour was the site for the first ocean trials of the MAKO 1200 Turbine. A pre-production model MAKO 1200 was mounted several metres below the ocean surface, underneath a deployment vessel that ensured accurate performance measurements would be recorded. The vessel was towed in a series of extended runs along a course in the north-eastern sector of the Harbour. These sea trials confirmed the design objectives of the engineering and production team by proving the durability and productivity of the blade design and the ability of the MAKO Tidal Turbine to produce commercial volumes of electricity. 2014 Year-end update

April 1, 2014 - Elemental Energy Technologies Ltd (EET) Managing Director Douglas Hunt today released an update on the company's development of its innovative MAKO turbine ahead of the transitional 2013/2014 financial year for the company.  Mr Hunt noted the successful fundraising in late 2013 and the progress made by the in-house engineering team to develop the first MAKO prototypes for testing later this year. Successful fundraising closes

December 24, 2013 - Successful fundraising has been completed. The proceeds of this fundraising are being used to fabricate and test the MAKO.  It is anticipated that the initial variant of this new turbine design will be real-scale tested late in the first quarter of 2014 before deployment in an independent test facility ahead of installation at launch customer sites later in the year. NEW TURBINE DESIGN to be developed

November 1, 2013 - A completely new turbine design, the MAKO,  is ready to be prototyped and tested prior to deployment in high-flow channels and rivers with launch customers.  In addition to the MAKO, other MAKO designs are currently being researched by our in-house team and if successfully developed, may be incorporated into profitable lower-flow models in the future. IN-HOUSE ENGINEERING TEAM expands

April 30, 2013 - Dr Peter Murdoch has joined our Sydney-based engineering team. Previously at a renewable energy technology developer, Peter was responsible for designing their innovative turbine systems.  Before that, Peter worked as a consulting design engineer then at General Motors Holden, Mercury Marine and Orbital Engine Corporation.
